“Honouring hustle and heart.”
Good morning. Bam Adebayo just joined Wilt Chamberlain in the NBA history books with an 83-point eruption. Team USA got stunned at the World Baseball Classic and now faces elimination. And up in Canada, the Oilers found their backbone while the Maple Leafs are in full tank mode. Let’s get into it.
🏆 Top Story: Bam Adebayo Scores 83 Points, Second-Most in NBA History
It’s Wilt, then Bam.
Bam Adebayo had a night for the ages on Tuesday, scoring 83 points in Miami’s 150-129 win over Washington. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game stands higher in NBA history.
Adebayo set league records for free throws made (36) and attempted (43) in a game. He finished 20-of-43 from the field and 7-for-22 from three-point range in a stat line unlike any other in NBA history.
The explosion started early. Adebayo dropped 31 points in the first quarter, the NBA’s highest-scoring quarter since Karl-Anthony Towns had 32 in 2022. He had 43 at halftime, breaking the Heat record for points in any half and surpassing his previous career high of 41 for a full game before the third quarter even started.
By the end of the third quarter, Adebayo had 62 points, breaking LeBron James’ Heat single-game record of 61 set in 2014. The last player to have 62 through three quarters? One of Adebayo’s basketball heroes, Kobe Bryant, who had exactly that many on his way to 81 points in 2005.
Adebayo passed Bryant’s career-best to claim sole possession of second place on the NBA’s all-time single-game scoring list.
“An absolutely surreal night,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
Adebayo was in tears as he hugged his mother, Marilyn Blount, before leaving the floor. His girlfriend, four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, wrote on social media: “Welp won’t have the highest career high in the house anymore, but at least it gives me something to go after.”
His season high entering Tuesday? 32 points. He matched that with a free throw midway through the second quarter.
From career night to all-time night. That’s what greatness looks like.

U.S. Stunned by Italy at World Baseball Classic, Faces Elimination
Italy shocked the United States 8-6 on Tuesday night, putting the Americans in jeopardy of elimination from the World Baseball Classic. Kyle Teel, Sam Antonacci, and Jac Caglianone homered as Italy built a big lead. The U.S. needs Italy to beat Mexico on Wednesday to guarantee a quarterfinals spot. If Mexico wins, the three teams will be knotted at 3-1 and the tiebreaker comes down to runs allowed. Pete Crow-Armstrong homered twice, including a second-deck shot in the ninth that cut the lead to 8-6, but Aaron Judge struck out with a runner on to end it. Italy starter Michael Lorenzen held the Americans scoreless through 4 2/3 innings. Team USA was down 8-1 before mounting a late rally that fell short.
Ravens Back Out of Maxx Crosby Blockbuster Over Knee Concerns

One of the biggest moves of the offseason just fell apart at the finish line.
Tottenham Humiliated 5-2 by Atlético Madrid
Tottenham suffered a humiliating 5-2 Champions League defeat at Atlético Madrid with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky substituted in the 17th minute after two dreadful errors. Interim manager Igor Tudor insisted he made the decision “to protect the goalkeeper.” Kinsky departed down the tunnel “broken” with teammates following to offer support. The opening period was described as “quite possibly the stupidest, most absurd, most astonishing minutes of football you have ever seen.” Spurs are careering toward relegation and now face inevitable Champions League exit.
Liverpool Draw with Galatasaray in Istanbul
Liverpool were “distinctly second best for the first three-quarters” of their Champions League last-16 first leg against Galatasaray, drawing 0-0 in Istanbul. Manager Arne Slot’s 100th game in charge feels “almost as decisive for their season and possibly for the long-term future” of his tenure. Liverpool will be without Alisson for the second leg at Anfield after he suffered a minor training problem. Their season has never recovered from nine defeats in 12 games earlier this year.
Barcelona Snatch Late Draw Against Newcastle
Lamine Yamal scored with the last kick of the game to give Barcelona a draw against Newcastle in the Magpies’ first Champions League knockout stage tie in club history. Manager Eddie Howe called it “the biggest game Newcastle had ever played.” Yamal’s late strike denied Newcastle a historic victory in a match where clear chances were scarce and one moment was always likely to be decisive.

Canada Sets Up Win-or-Go-Home WBC Clash with Cuba
Canada beat host Puerto Rico 3-2 on Tuesday night to set up a high-stakes finale against Cuba on Wednesday at the World Baseball Classic. Canada (2-1) must defeat Cuba (2-1) to advance past the first round for the first time. Puerto Rico (3-1) had already clinched a quarterfinals spot. Rico Garcia forced in the tying and go-ahead runs with consecutive bases-loaded walks to Tyler O’Neill and Tyler Black in the third inning. Abraham Toro added an RBI single in the fourth. Cal Quantrill will start Wednesday against NPB star lefty Livan Moinelo. Brock Dykxhoorn went nine-up, nine-down to close it out. Everything is on the line.
Oilers Find Building Block in Gutsy Win Over Avalanche
Edmonton grabbed a crucial 4-3 regulation win over Colorado on Tuesday, avenging a 9-1 loss when they last met. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice. The Oilers lost Colton Dach and Ty Emberson to injuries in the first period, then goalie Connor Ingram was knocked out late in the second by Nathan MacKinnon (who received a five-minute major and game misconduct for goaltender interference). Tristan Jarry came on in relief and “battled right alongside everyone else” to earn the win. “These are games that you can look back on next month and really rally behind,” Nugent-Hopkins said. The Oilers blocked 23 shots to Colorado’s eight. For the struggling Jarry, it was an unexpected opportunity to show his teammates what he was made of after a “long, rocky road” since being traded to Edmonton.
Maple Leafs Embrace Tank Mode After Eighth Straight Loss
Toronto lost 3-1 to Montreal on Tuesday, their eighth consecutive defeat, and are now so bad they may fall into the NHL’s bottom five and keep the first-round pick they surrendered to Boston. The Leafs have gone from first to worst in the Atlantic Division with two regulation wins over their past 21 attempts. Their goal differential has plummeted by 63 goals year-over-year, from plus-37 to minus-26, worst in the Eastern Conference. They were outshot 33-18 by the Canadiens. William Nylander, the only Leaf to score, said “it’s hard to really stay optimistic in this situation.” Toronto now sits seventh from the basement with a 6.5% chance of winning the first-overall pick. The tank is on.

Canadian defensive back Deane Leonard agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers worth $2 million.
💪 Hustle & Heart Highlight
Tristan Jarry came into Tuesday night’s game in Denver carrying the weight of a “long, rocky road” since being traded to Edmonton.
The struggling goalie had faced “superfluous narrative floating around the internet” about his relationship with teammates. He’d been searching for nights where he walked out of a rink feeling good about himself. Those nights had been rare.
Then Connor Ingram got knocked out of the game late in the second period by Nathan MacKinnon. Suddenly, with the Oilers down two forwards to injury and facing the NHL-leading Avalanche on the road, Jarry was thrust into the fire.
He could have crumbled. Instead, he battled.
“Any opportunity you have to step in the net is another chance to be better,” Jarry said after the win. “Tonight was another opportunity, and being able to seize that is a whole different moment.”
His teammates won’t make a big deal about it publicly, but they know what this meant. Had it gone the other way, this could have been “a real back-breaker” for Jarry’s tenure in the dressing room.
Instead, he shut the door. He made big saves. He helped his team win.
“We need him,” Zach Hyman said. “We need him to get back to the level that he’s capable of playing at, because he’s a difference maker.”
That’s what we honor here. Not the players who coast through success. The ones who battle through adversity. The ones who take their chance when it comes and prove they belong.
Jarry earned that start. And a whole lot more.
