“Honouring hustle and heart.”

Good morning. Connor McDavid just joined some elite company with a milestone night. A 20-year-old rookie dropped the gloves against a giant to defend his captain. And the Senators are surging into a playoff spot behind a kid making his NHL debut. Let’s dive in.

🏆 Top Story

Connor McDavid Reaches 400 Goals and 1,200 Points in Milestone Night

Connor McDavid doesn’t just break records. He collects them in bundles.

The Edmonton Oilers superstar scored twice on Tuesday night to reach 401 career goals and 1,200 points in a 5-2 victory over the Utah Mammoth. And he did it all in one game, because why spread out the milestones when you can stack them?

McDavid became the fifth player in Oilers history to reach 400 goals when he beat Karel Vejmelka with 7:53 left in the second period. The go-ahead goal was his 40th of the season and put Edmonton in front 3-2.

Then, with 7.5 seconds remaining, he buried an empty-netter for his 401st goal and his 1,200th career point.

Think about that for a second. Goal 400. Point 1,200. All in the same game. McDavid also has 799 career assists, meaning he’s one helper away from another milestone.

But he wasn’t the only Oiler making history on Tuesday. Evan Bouchard had three assists to give him 82 points, joining Cale Makar, Erik Karlsson and Roman Josi as the only NHL defencemen to record multiple 80-point seasons since 2005-06. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins posted his 800th career NHL point with an assist in the first period.

It was a milestone-rich contest in every sense. And Edmonton’s 24 blocked shots and ability to limit Utah to just 18 shots on goal showed this wasn’t just an offensive clinic. The Oilers are playing complete hockey when it matters most.

The win leapfrogged Edmonton over the Vegas Golden Knights for second place in the Pacific Division as the playoff races heat up. The Oilers have won their last five games against the Mammoth and are hitting their stride at exactly the right time.

Connor McDavid is chasing 800 assists, chasing another Hart Trophy, and chasing a Stanley Cup. Tuesday night was just another reminder that when the game’s greatest player is on a mission, milestones are just checkpoints along the way.

Canadian hockey delivered milestone nights, rookie heroics, winning streaks, and a goalie fighting to keep his chair.

Maple Leafs Rookie Easton Cowan Drops Gloves to Defend Tavares

Easton Cowan doesn’t look like someone who picks fights with giants. But on Tuesday night, the 20-year-old Maple Leafs rookie did exactly that.

When Nikita Zadorov crushed John Tavares into the end-boards illegally, Cowan bolted from across the zone and dropped his gloves to fight the massive Bruins defenceman. Zadorov has seven inches, 65 pounds and 737 games on him.

“I think you just kind of black out. And, you know, go for it,” Cowan said after Toronto’s 4-2 comeback victory over Boston. “He actually lived in my billet house in London. So, hopefully my billet parents aren’t too mad.”

With Zadorov in the box for a five-minute boarding major, Max Domi scored a go-ahead power-play goal. Dakota Joshua challenged Zadorov to a proper fight in his first shift coming out of the box. The Leafs delivered by far their best performance in at least two months.

Cowan was awarded the player-of-the-game belt despite zero points and zero shots. An appreciative Tavares shared some words with Cowan as soon as he served his roughing penalty.

“I bet he’s feeling pretty tall right now,” Tavares smiled. “Speaks volumes to his passion for the group.”

Senators Rookie Carter Yakemchuk Scores in NHL Debut

Carter Yakemchuk scored a second-period goal and had an assist in his NHL debut as the Ottawa Senators beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Tuesday night, climbing into a playoff spot.

Yakemchuk, the No. 7 overall pick of the 2024 draft, was called up from Belleville along with fellow NHL newcomer Jorian Donovan with five defensemen sidelined by injuries.

“Yak, he’s a special player. You can see that,” said coach Travis Green. “We needed a play out of someone tonight and he gave us that play.”

The 20-year-old defenceman from Fort McMurray, Alta., skated in from the point to the right circle and beat John Gibson on the glove side. Brady Tkachuk scored his 20th goal of the season.

The Senators have won four straight and nine of their last 11 games.

Flames Win Fourth Straight, Beat Kings in Shootout

Yegor Sharangovich scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. The Flames (30-34-7) have won four games in a row for the first time this season.

Olli Maatta and Zayne Parekh, each with their first goals of the season, scored in regulation. Dustin Wolf made 23 stops and improved to 4-1 all-time against the Kings. Calgary has won seven straight at home against Los Angeles dating back to 2022.

Canadiens Goalie Jakub Dobes Makes 41 Saves, Fights to Keep Starter’s Role

Jakub Dobes made 41 saves, including a breakaway robbery of Logan Stankoven with less than five minutes to play, as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old’s 23rd win in 34 starts affirmed his status as Montreal’s starting goaltender, even if no one will anoint him just yet.

“I feel that for Dobes, he’s just been trying to get that chair, steal a chair, get that chair, and I think that’s an every-day thing,” said coach Martin St. Louis. “Once you stop worrying about that, I think that’s when somebody steals your chair.”

Dobes has gone 9-3-1 in his last 13 starts with a .907 save percentage. Cole Caufield scored his 44th goal of the season. Ivan Demidov secured a crucial goal to give Montreal a 4-2 lead.

Samuel Montembeault knows what happens when you stop fighting for your chair. The goaltender who ranked fifth in the NHL in goals saved above expected last season saw his chair kicked out from under him. Now Dobes is making sure he never stops fighting for his.

Calgary Stampeders Extend All-West DB Adrian Greene Through 2028

The Calgary Stampeders signed Canadian defensive back Adrian Greene to a contract extension through 2028. The six-foot, 189-pound defender started 13 regular-season games at field-side cornerback in 2025, earning an All-West Division selection with 39 defensive tackles, six interceptions and two touchdowns.

“I’m grateful to continue this journey with the Stampeders and to make Calgary my home for a while,” said Greene, a native of Toronto. The 27-year-old was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2022 CFL Draft by the B.C. Lions.

Projected First-Round CFL Draft Pick Darius Bell Performs at Pro Day

Canadian offensive lineman Darius Bell performed for CFL and NFL scouts at East Carolina University’s pro day on Tuesday. The six-foot-four, 303-pound blocker from Hamilton, Ont., ran the forty-yard dash in the 5.5-second range and recorded 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Five CFL teams attended including the B.C. Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Bell was recently projected as a first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft and is the No. 12-ranked prospect on the scouting bureau rankings. The 2026 CFL Draft is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28.

💪 Hustle & Heart Highlight

Easton Cowan is 20 years old. He weighs 185 pounds. He’s in his rookie season.

Nikita Zadorov is 29 years old. He weighs 250 pounds. He’s played 737 NHL games.

When Zadorov crushed John Tavares into the end-boards illegally on Tuesday night, Cowan didn’t think about the size difference. He didn’t think about their shared history. He didn’t think about anything except standing up for his captain.

He just dropped his gloves and fought.

This kid is a quick study.

Cowan was the first Leaf to drop the gloves after the infamous Non-Response Game. And on Tuesday, in his first tour through the haunted TD Garden, he bolted across the zone to attack a fellow London Knights alum who outweighs him by 65 pounds.

This is what we honor. Not the stat line. Not the size advantage. The refusal to let your teammate take a cheap shot without answering for it.

Easton Cowan is 20 years old and 185 pounds. But on Tuesday night, he played a lot bigger than that.

👊 Sign-Off

Connor McDavid hit 400 goals and 1,200 points in the same game. A 20-year-old rookie fought a giant to defend his captain. And the Senators are surging into a playoff spot behind rookies making their NHL debuts.

Sports gives us these moments. The superstars collecting milestones like souvenirs. The rookies refusing to back down from anyone. The teams finding a way when half their roster is injured.

Go make your Wednesday count.
