Big names in baseball don’t always guarantee results. The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are a perfect example of this. Both teams love the big name players and the hype behind them and both have deep enough pockets to go out and sign them easily. However, they are no longer the dynasties they once were. Although the hiring of big name players at times can be rewarding for these teams, most of the time they never work out. The biggest issue with having star names like Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz on your team is that egos in the locker room can get out of hand. Many times, locker rooms get divided and coaching staffs can’t do anything about it. The saddest part is usually the skipper at the end of the season gets the boot.
New age baseball has upper management searching for great draft picks. This means better scouts, and many trips below the border to Latin America searching for a no name kid, that nobody has ever seen before. Alongside this strategy is finding average salaries and the right chemistry, with a coaching staff that’s eager to teach the young and bring up champions instantly.
Let’s look at some of the teams that quite honestly have had the baseball critics in shock. The Kansas City Royals went from bottom feeders to almost champions, thanks to one hell of a pitcher named Madison Baumgarner. I applaud their management for bringing in young talent, crafty middle aged pitchers, some low salary veterans, and a few relatively above average salary players. Now the same goes for Minnesota and the biggest surprise of this year the Houston Astros, who for the last few years were a laughing stock.
I hope that some of these high salary teams can open up their eyes and realize that the fans will still come to the ballpark because they love the game. There really is no need to have a 250 million dollar salary to have a great baseball team.
I believe that Baseball is in a state of change and I’m really happy about it. I will be following baseball all season and I’ll be rooting for the low budget teams, with my rally hat on at all times, ’cause at the end of the day no player is worth twenty million a season. Go Astros, go Twins, go Royals.
I’m 5-3 in my free picks and tonight I’ll go with the giants at -1,5 + 125. Good luck to all.
