Welcome to “The Waiting Game,” a reflection on the current state of sports as we find ourselves in the middle of June. While other major sports have reached their conclusions, baseball remains the sole contender. Although there are a few soccer tournaments that mainly cater to die-hard fans and Latin Americans, the next big event on the horizon is the NFL.
This period also happens to be one of the most challenging times for many couples. Every Sunday, depending on which coast you reside, there’s the potential for tension with your significant other, who may feel neglected. Whether they choose to join you in enjoying a refreshing beer or pester you about the lawn that needs mowing, a marriage that withstands the pressures of the NFL is truly a testament to compatibility.
From the young to the old, the vast majority shares a deep love for this testosterone-pumping sport. Its immense following can be attributed to the hard-hitting action, relentless tackling, and the overall roughness exhibited on every play. It fuels our impatience for summer’s end and the arrival of autumn. What can compare to the adrenaline rush of gathering around a table with friends each week, gambling on the outcomes of NFL games? Some revel in the fantasy aspect of it all. Whatever category you fall into, the NFL has successfully marketed its sport, captivating us all and making Sundays a day of eager anticipation for the game.
So mark your calendars and start counting down the days. Perhaps even indulge in a taste of Canadian football as an appetizer (though personally, I’ll wait for the big boys to take the field). Until then, savor the barbecues, the swimming pools, and the joys of life.
After taking a few days off to relax, I’m pleased to share that my free picks have resulted in a 4-3 record. Today, I’ll be backing the Los Angeles Dodgers with a -1.5 spread at +135 odds. The Dodgers faced a tough defeat yesterday, but I expect a stronger performance from them. As for Tim Lincecum, he has become rather predictable, and I don’t have much confidence in his abilities. Good luck!
